During the latest quarterly Animal Health Canada Poultry and Livestock Emergency Management Network (PLEMN) meeting, members across Canada shared lessons learned from working with smaller operations to keep animals healthy, make farms more resilient, and better inform communities. PLEMN conversations often cover flooding, wildfires, or unpredictable disease threats across the country. Preparedness is strongest when it includes everyone, and while it’s usually associated with commercial producers, preparedness is just as vital for small farms, hobbyists, and individuals who keep backyard livestock and poultry.
